Cool Combinations Now

Camellias in bloom with Deciduous Sparkleberry Holly

Our weather has been crazy lately. But unusual temperatures this time of the year cause us to enjoy some unique plant color combinations. I really like the lady clare camellia blooms above the sparkleberry holly in the image above. Also, since many of our early blooming camellias are coming into bloom, like lady clare, they are blooming along side the late blooming sasanqua camellias. Also, the fragrant wintersweet is popping open and is still in fall leaf color at my house. Many of our evergreen hollies are a neat contrast to some of the early spring bulbs blooming. A week ago at my friend Mike’s house, purple crocus in mass were in bloom contrasting with the fall color of sedum foliage. So maybe as we realize that many times of the year our climate is not acting like it should, perhaps we should start designing plant combinations for our gardens like those we are seeing that work now. Let me know what plant combinations are blooming in your garden now out of sequence but really makes a nice combination.
