Cyclamen – Indoors

Pam was having a party the first of February and wanted to brighten the house with some fresh plants. I went by Lowe’s and bought two Laser Cyclamen in 4-inch pots for $4.98 each. One was pink, the other white. Now there is one thing I know about Cyclamen indoors–that I kill them. Now granted, we keep a cool house (around 67 to 68 degrees) in winter and have good, bright, indirect light. But this selection, called Laser from Monrovia Nurseries, is the longest lasting and best blooming kind I have ever bought. I keep the soil slightly damp and cut off the spent blooms. The one shown in the picture above (photographed today) is about six weeks after they were purchased, and the bloom count is still outstanding. Pretty good for $4.98. They are starting to have some yellow leaves, and my guess is I will be lucky for them to look good for another week. Some new selections of flowering houseplants are sure great improvements, and this Laser group is certainly one.
