The fall is the best time to plant trees, shrubs, and many perennials. I just walked my garden and flagged a dozen spots where I hope to add Dr. Aromi’ s remarkable hybrid deciduous azaleas. Chances are you might have some places where your garden has gaps. Maybe a plant is not thriving, or has died. Maybe you need to beef up a border, remove a bad choice (Bradford pear!) and replace it with something better, or continue to add to your collection (an honorable obsession). Mark those spots, prepare the planting holes, and lay in some mulch. It’s time to get ready for fall planting.
Make that list and come see us at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens Fall Plant Sale at the gardens October 22-23.
Watch local nurseries for end of season bargains and special fall purchases.
The fall is the best, but often overlooked, season for planting most ornamentals.
